Kathryn and Aviv celebrated their marriage at Le Meridien in Arlington. They planned their ceremony to be one year after their engagement, near the tulip garden by the Carillon where Aviv proposed. The same tulips were in full bloom and we were so excited to get some romantic portraits there and re-live some of those sweet memories.
As life would have it, not everything went according to plan! It started raining just before the ceremony and they had to make some last minute decisions to move things indoors. Kathryn and Aviv had a gorgeous ceremony with a candle-lit aisle and draped chuppah that was breathtaking. Nick and I had found a covered patio for family photos that worked nicely, and our brave couple was still game to do some of their portraits outdoors. The tulips were almost iridescent in the evening rain, and we had a perfect view of the Washington Monument.
Kathryn and Aviv both live lives dedicated to public service. They are mentally and physically tough, and very kind hearted. We were grateful to witness their union and to be a part of this beautiful day. Their wedding day reminded me of this quote that I love: “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass–it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
